Asian Swamp Eel

The Monopterus Albus

The Asian swamp eel, "Monopterus albus" was hardly explored and cultivated in Malaysia. The species that belongs to the fish family, are very popular among the community, especially in the east coast and the northern parts of the country because of its delicious meat and high nutritional value.

In Malaysia, eels are usually caught from the wild by using traps or snares mainly during the rainy season. Eels are difficult to obtain during the hot and dry season causing prices to rise due to high demand.

Aware of this potential, Pelasari Aquamarine has taken the initiative to conduct a comprehensive study to breed the species, with the aim to consistently supply eels throughout the year.

Eel Nutrition Produced by Us

In addition to the high protein content, Pelasari Aquamarine eels showed high nutritional values in Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, and in Laurie, Pentadecanoic, Palmitic, Stearic,Arachidic, Oleic, Nervonic, Linoleic (ALA) and Eicosatetraenoic (EPA) acids. The conducted research revealed that some of these nutrients were not found in wild eels.

The above nutrients assist in lowering the Likelihood of heart attacks and high-blood pressure, reducing blood sugar levels, they are good for brain development, speed up the wound healing process, as well as having antioxidant properties and contributing  to beautiful and youthful skin.

Advantages of Our Eel's

Eels found in the Malaysian market are usually wild eels that live in swamps or in paddy fields. Its main diet are worms and small insects found in their environment.

At Pelasari Aquamarine Farm, we are concerned about the environmental aspects and food resources available for our farmed eels. We ensure that the water used is from the best source, clean with the right PH balance for the eels. Eels are an ideal species of fish to be farmed because they are very tolerant to many conditions, including being kept in large numbers. After the fingerlings have been in quarantine, they can then continue to grow in ponds or in specialised tanks that recirculate the water.

We also ensure that the appropriate diet is given according to the size and needs of the eel. The processing and preparation of the eel feed is done

internally using clean, pure and halal ingredients.

A clean environment and nutritious food source, has resulted in higher quality eels in comparison to wild eels. This is substantiated by a study conducted by a

team of researchers from University Putra Malaysia (UPM), confirming that the nutrient content in the feed produced by Pelasari Aquamarine was higher compared to that available for wild eels.

Our Operations

Pelasari Aquamarine is able to carry out full operations from breeding, hatching, growing, to harvesting. The food given to the eels is processed internally, to maintain the high quality standards and ensure its purity.

The breeding process begins with the selection of healthy and high-quality brood stocks. The environment created resembles the original habitat so that the eels can adapt and provide high quality eggs. The hatching and growing up process is closely monitored to prevent any injury or damage to eggs and baby eels.
